    Get PDF
The inhibition effect of diethylenetriamine penta(methylene phosphonic acid) (DTPMP) and Trisodium Citrate (TSC) on thecorrosion behavior of stainless steel in 0.5 M H2SO4 solution was investigated by using weight loss method. The combinedcorrosion inhibition efficiency offered 200 ppm of DTPMP and 150 ppm of TSC was 95%. Polarization study showed thatthe inhibitors inhibit stainless steel corrosion through mixed mode and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS)results confirm the adsorption of the inhibitors at stainless steel/acid interface. The adsorption of DTPMP and TSC ontothe stainless steel surface was found to follow Langmuir adsorption isotherm modes. Negative values of (ΔGads) in theacid media ensured the spontaneity of the adsorption process. The nature of the protective film formed on the metalsurface has been analyzed by FTIR spectra, SEM and AFM analysis. The activation energy (Ea), free energy change(ΔGads), enthalpy change (ΔHads) and entropy change (ΔSads) were calculated to understand the corrosion inhibitionmechanism

    Get PDF
Aim: To report a series of patients with lacrimal gland lesions simulating the clinicoradiological features of lacrimal gland pleomorphic adenoma (LGPA). Methods: Multicentre retrospective, interventional case series. Clinical records of all patients with lesions mimicking LGPA seen in five orbital units were reviewed. Results: The study included 14 patients (seven men and seven women) with a mean age of 50.9 years. The diagnosis of LGPA was made in all cases by experienced orbital surgeons, based on clinicoradiological features, and lacrimal gland excision was performed. Postoperative histology revealed lymphoma (four patients), chronic dacryoadenitis (three patients), adenoid cystic carcinoma (two patients), Sjogren's syndrome (two patients), cavernous haemangioma (one patient), benign lymphoid hyperplasia (one patient) and granulomatous dacryoadenitis (one patient). Comparison with the total number of histologically confirmed LGPA cases seen during the study period revealed that 22.6% of cases of suspected LGPA were misdiagnosed based on clinicoradiological criteria. Conclusions: Many different lesions may mimic the clinicoradiological features of LGPA. The accepted clinicoradiological criteria used for the diagnosis of LGPA have a high false-positive rate, even in experienced hands. Based on this study, the authors believe that fine-needle aspiration biopsy or intraoperative biopsy and frozen section diagnosis may help reduce unnecessary lacrimal gland excision.Venkatesh C Prabhakaran, Paul S Cannon, Alan McNab, Garry Davis, Brett O’Donnell, Peter J Dolman, Raf Ghabrial, Dinesh Selv

    Get PDF
The computer network and its application over the various platforms has the tremendous growth. This exploits vulnerabilities over the network and it is very tough to solve the security issues. The vast number of intrusion over the network leads to failure of network. There are many IDS available for detecting the intrusion. This paper argues the various Data mining techniques available and how it helps to achieve the goal with higher accuracy on IDS. Also this paper discusses and compare with traditional approaches of DM practices on IDS. Also the paper tells the user about IDS and IPS for the network with data mining approaches and suggesting the user for selecting the preferable approach for finding the intrusion over the network effectively

Background/aims: To report the outcome of primary radiotherapy in patients with progressive optic nerve sheath meningioma (ONSM). Methods: The clinical records of all patients were reviewed in a retrospective, observational, multicentre study. Results: Thirty-four consecutive patients were included. Twenty-six women and eight men received conventional or stereotactic fractionated radiotherapy, and were followed for a median 58 (range 51–156) months. Fourteen eyes (41%) showed improved visual acuity of at least two lines on the Snellen chart. In 17 (50%) eyes, the vision stabilised, while deterioration was noted in three eyes (9%). The visual outcome was not associated with age at the time of radiotherapy (p=0.83), sex (p=0.43), visual acuity at the time of presentation (p=0.22) or type of radiotherapy (p=0.35). Optic disc swelling was associated with improved visual acuity (p<0.01) and 4/11 patients with optic atrophy also showed improvement. Long-term complications were dry eyes in five patients, cataracts in three, and mild radiation retinopathy in four. Conclusion: Primary radiotherapy for patients with ONSM is associated with long-term improvement of visual acuity and few adverse effects.Peerooz Saeed, Leo Blank, Dinesh Selva, John G. Maintenance of dissolved oxygen at saturated level will help the growth and reproduction of normal population of fish and other aquatic organisms1,2. Due to increase of industries, it is necessary to monitor the DO level of water resources. This will help us to understand the present condition of water at various resources that are connected to the industries. In this study the water is collected from various resources around Sundarapuram in coimbatore district and they were subjected to dissolved oxygen study. The DO results of various samples were compared with DO of demineralised water which is taken as reference. Parameters such as temperature, hardness and aeration time that will affect the saturation level of DO are also discussed 6,7,8.Ă‚

A Lightweight Privacy Preserved Buyer Seller Watermarking Protocol Based on Priced Oblivious Transfer

replacing traditional selling of digital products (such as songs, videos, movies, software, books, documents, images, etc.) through shops. This mode of sale can bring the product price down as infrastructure cost in setting up shops and retail chain is reduced. On downside, however, this may increase problem of piracy as digital data can be easily copied, manipulated and transmitted. To protect copyright of owner, establish right of buyer on purchased copy and yet check data piracy, it is required that a rusted e-distribution system be built. Such a system should be able to ensure secure transaction between buyer and seller, check ownership and track the origin of unauthorized copies..The buyer seller watermarking protocols are heavyweight protocols. These protocols require large computation power and network bandwidth. The heavyweight protocols could not be used for the resource constrained devices since the devices does not support battery power.A lightweight protocol has been proposed which is best suited for the resource constrained devices. The protocol is based on a fast asymmetric encryption with novel simplification. In this approach the seller authenticates the buyer but does not learn which items are purchased. The protocol is designed in such a way that the buyers pay the right price without disclosing the purchased item, and the sellers are able to identify buyers that released pirated copies. The protocol is constructed based on the priced oblivious transfer and the existing techniques for asymmetric watermark embedding. Index Terms- Buyer–seller watermarking protocol, fair exchange, priced oblivious transfer (POT). B I

Efficacy of endoscopic sinus surgery for paranasal sinus mucocele including modified endoscopic Lothrop procedure for frontal sinus mucocele

This study evaluated the efficacy of the modified endoscopic Lothrop procedure (MELP) for complicated frontal mucoceles and endoscopic marsupialization for other paranasal sinus mucoceles. It was a retrospective, consecutive case review of sinus mucoceles treated endoscopically by a single surgeon over a four-year period (1998-2002). There were 41 mucoceles in 28 patients, including 24 frontal, eight frontoethmoidal, three ethmoidal, five maxillary and one frontal mucocele. Twenty-one patients underwent the modified Lothrop procedure for frontal mucoceles, and seven underwent simple drainage and marsupialization for frontoethmoidal, ethmoidal and maxillary mucoceles. At median follow-up of 16 months, all patients had a patent mucocele opening. Patients treated by drainage and marsupialization did not have any complications or mucocele recurrence. All patients treated by the modified endoscopic Lothrop procedure had improvement in symptoms and signs. Four patients had minor complications including epistaxis and adhesions and five required further surgery. The average hospital in-patient stay was 2 ± 1.4 days. Endoscopic techniques, including MELP are effective in the short term for the management of complex and simple paranasal sinus mucoceles. MELP has a useful place in the management of mucoceles with a significant bony partition from an adjacent sinus or nasal cavity. It is also indicated when the mucocele is associated with loss of lateral support in the sinus with risk of medial-wall collapse of the orbital contents obstructing drainage.Jwu Jin Khong, Raman Malhotra, Dinesh Selva and Peter John Wormal

Oxidative Stress Activates the Transcription Factors FoxO 1a and FoxO 3a in the Hippocampus of Rats Exposed to Low Doses of Ozone

    Get PDF
The exposure to low doses of ozone induces an oxidative stress state, which is involved in neurodegenerative diseases. Forkhead box O (FoxO) family of transcription factors are activated by oxidative signals and regulate cell proliferation and resistance to oxidative stress. Our aim was to study the effect of chronic exposure to ozone on the activation of FoxO 1a and FoxO 3a in the hippocampus of rats. Male Wistar rats were divided into six groups and exposed to 0.25 ppm of ozone for 0, 7, 15, 30, 60, and 90 days. After treatment, the groups were processed for western blotting and immunohistochemistry against FoxO 3a, Mn SOD, cyclin D2, FoxO 1a, and active caspase 3. We found that exposure to ozone increased the activation of FoxO 3a at 30 and 60 days and expression of Mn SOD at all treatment times. Additionally, increases in cyclin D2 from 7 to 90 days; FoxO 1a at 15, 30, and 60 days; and activate caspase 3 from 30 to 60 days of exposure were noted. The results indicate that ozone alters regulatory pathways related to both the antioxidant system and the cell cycle, inducing neuronal reentry into the cell cycle and apoptotic death
